IPL is one of the most widely used light therapy treatments in dermatology. IPL systems emit a series of rapid, intense, and controlled light pulses, ensuring that the skin is protected from thermal damage and minimizing discomfort. This technology targets acne by using specific wavelengths of light to focus on the bacteria in the skin and the inflamed sebaceous glands that lead to breakouts. During the Stellar M22™ IPL acne treatment, short pulses of intense light are delivered through an applicator onto your skin. The light penetrates various layers of the skin to target acne-causing bacteria and help reduce inflammation or excess sebum (skin oil) production. Depending on the severity of your acne, you may typically need 4-6 sessions, with a 4-week break between treatments, to see noticeable improvements.

Depending on your specific concern, you can expect the session to last approximately 30 minutes. You may experience a warm sensation as the light is applied to the skin, but the treatment is gentle and should not feel uncomfortable.

Right after the treatment, you may experience some redness, which will usually fade within a few hours, depending on your personalized treatment settings. In most cases, you can apply makeup right away and resume your daily activities the same day. Your physician may recommend avoiding direct sun exposure for a few weeks after the treatment and applying sunscreen regularly.

Lumenis energy-based treatments are not suitable for everyone and carry some risks. IPL for acne is not suitable when you have active viral or fungal skin conditions or skin cancer.
