How It Works: Tattoo Removal Technology

The laser delivers nano-second pulses that break the tattoo ink into tiny particles, which your body can naturally eliminate. During treatment, you may hear popping sounds as the ink particles burst, a result of the photo-acoustic effect. This effect specifically targets the ink, ensuring that the surrounding skin remains unharmed.

What to Expect:

The treatment

Before the treatment, your doctor will apply a local anesthetic to the area being treated. During the procedure, your physician will target the tattoo with ultrashort laser pulses. The treatment typically lasts between 15-45 minutes, depending on the size of the tattoo. You may feel heat in the treated area and experience sensations similar to the feeling of a bandage being quickly removed.

What can I expect after treatment?

Right after treatment, you may notice whitish bubbles on the tattooed area, along with mild redness and swelling, all of which should subside within 24 hours. A thick crust will form over the treated area and will naturally fall off in about two weeks. In rare cases, you may experience minimal bleeding. Tattoo fading happens gradually and will become more noticeable over the next few weeks.

When will I see results?

You’ll notice a change in the color intensity of the tattoo right after the first treatment. The number of treatments required depends on factors like the size and location of the tattoo, your skin color, and the tattoo itself. Typically, you’ll need anywhere from 2-3 treatments, with some cases requiring up to 10. Treatments are spaced 6-10 weeks apart.

Is it right for me?

Stellar M22™ treatments may not be suitable for everyone and come with certain risks. Tattoo removal is not recommended if you have active infections, viral, fungal, or bacterial conditions, inflammatory skin disorders, or skin cancer. Potential risks include redness, swelling, purpura, and petechiae. It’s important to consult with your treatment provider to determine if this treatment is right for you.

Aftercare Advice

Following proper aftercare is essential to enhance the results of your treatment and minimize potential side effects.

  • Sun Protection: Stay out of direct sunlight and apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher every day. This helps protect your skin from further damage and prevents pigmentation changes.
  • Gentle Skincare: Use mild, non-comedogenic products to avoid irritation. Refrain from using exfoliating agents or retinoids right after your treatment.
  • Hydration: Keep your skin moisturized with suitable products to support healing and maintain hydration.
  • Avoid Heat: For the first few days, avoid heat sources like hot showers and saunas to prevent irritation and support your skin’s recovery.
